In Celebration of America’s 250th birthday, United Airlines released two special liveries on June 15, 2026. Read more about it here.
The livery called “Stars and Stripes” will be featured on two planes of United Airlines’ fleet.
- Boeing 787-10 (N78285)
- Boeing 737-800 (N91007)
I set up my alarms to see where the planes would fly and if it would be anywhere near me. The 787-10 is used on international routes from United hubs and therefore I wouldn’t have a lot of chances to capture it. The 787 mainly flies out of Chicago, New York and Los Angeles.
On July 17, 2026, I got lucky. A notification popped up that the United 737 with the special livery will arrive at Fort Lauderdale International Airport. My hotel was only 20 minutes away so I headed over to my plane spotting spot, where I can get arrivals on 10L and 10R without having to move.
I expected the plane to land on 10L, and the aircraft did arrive on 10L. So I was at the perfect spot for pictures of the plane.
There was no need to wait long for the plane to arrive. I timed it perfectly to be there, with a little bit of time to spare and prepare.
At the same time a heavy storm rolled through the Miami area and lots of planes heading to MIA were diverted to FLL. While checking my tracker app, I saw that there was an ITA Airbus A330-900neo sitting on the ramp at the other side of the airport.
After capturing the United 737 with the special livery land, I drove over to the Greenbelt airport observation area and photographed the Airbus sitting there. While waiting for the Airbus to get ready and take off to continue the “long” journey from Fort Lauderdale to Miami, United’s Boeing with the Stars and Stripes livery also took off.
